Hey friends, it’s Lisa on the AC blog today. I hope you had wonderful holidays and a great start in the new year. I’m really excited about what 2021 has in store for me and I plan to be as creative as the last years! Today I’m sharing a cute winter mini album to document the first months of 2021.
The assignment this week was to create unique mini albums. I have created a ton of different kinds of mini albums but what I really like doing lately are minis in the shape of cute characters. Who would’ve guessed…? 🙂 So for this mini, I wanted the cover to be a snowman head.
I started by drawing a head on a piece of paper. Then I photographed it and put the image in my Silhouette program. I used the shape of the head and mirrored it, then placed them one on top of the other and welded them together. That way, I could fold them and have two pages for my mini.
For the cover, I cut the head out of AC white cardstock and shaded the edges with a blue Distress Oxide. Then I adhered it to another sheet of paper, pierced holes all around the head, hand-stitched it, using white thread, and cut off the excess all around, Then I attached a white pom pom ribbon around the head/cover. I created the face by paper-piecing and then stitching around some details to create more interest. I also created a cute little hat the same way.
For the final details, I created a tassel with five strands where I threaded pom poms and self-made paper beads. I also added a title to the head and a flower. All the patterned papers and embellishments used are from the beautiful Go the Scenic Route collection by Paige Evans.
For the pages of the album, I let my Silhouette cut them out, using the shape that I created earlier. I used white cardstock and patterned papers from the collection. I love all the colors you can find in Paige’s collections. Even though Go the Scenic Route is not a winter collection, you can always create your own color scheme and make it work for any theme.
Here are some of the papers I chose for my winter mini.
When I had all my shapes cut out, I folded them to create the pages. Then I stitched them together, attaching them back to back. I even created shaker pocket pages with vellum and sequins.
Since the album is meant to document the first months of 2021, I don’t have any pictures yet. But I wanted to embellish the pages a bit nonetheless. I used a cut file from Paige Evans with nine snowflakes. I let my machine cut it out, and then cut them apart to have nine single snowflakes. I adhered them to the pages of the mini. Then I went back with gesso and a baby wipe to add some mixed media and a snowy touch. I also went over the snowflakes with glitter.
To the first page, I added the title “WINTER” with hand-cut letters.
To open the album, you need to take off the hat. So I attached the hat with velcro so that you can take it off easily.
Of course, I needed to add a little bow underneath the chin… 🙂 I also added little star sequins to the cheeks and that’s it! I hope you like the mini album and are inspired to create your own snowman album for 2021!
Happy New Year, see you soon!
