The Prettiest Floral Layout

Hiya! It’s Jamie and today I’m sharing a layout I created using the awesome engraved wood speciality paper from the Hazelwood collection! How often do you find a product that so perfectly coordinates with your photo(s), that it feels like it was made for them?! That piece of specialty paper was so similar to the print of my dress, I had to use it!

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to paint the flowers on the background. I briefly considered using multiple colors of paint but ruled that out for a cleaner look. I used a small dry brush and yellow acrylic paint. I was initially concerned that the paint would soak into the wood and dilute the color, but since it was dry it layered on just fine. I would suggest that if you were to do the same, to not add water to your brush or it will sink into the wood. But if that’s what you’re going for, then by all means!

I wasn’t perfect about painting each of the flowers. I think it adds to their charm. It also helps that the engraved lines were really thick and defined. I set it aside to dry and it really didn’t take very long.

Using my digital die cutter, I cut out the title. I kept the negative and created a banner, which I backed with another piece of patterned paper. I wanted to put red behind the teal because I felt like the layout needed that color. But it was another happy product pick since the design was a bunch of plus signs…or a symbol for positive. It helped to reinforce the journaling!

I added a variety of embellishment to the page: die cuts, stickers, puffy stickers, chipboard stickers. I chose items that were pink, teal and gold and created a visual triangle around the photo and journaling.

It may look complicated or feel fancy (I mean, it’s wood paper!) but this was really simple and straight forward to make. I have major heart eyes for it!
