Hello American Crafts friends, it’s Terhi Koskinen here wishing you the sunniest Monday!
It’s March, but I’m already getting ready for the upcoming Mother’s Day, which is my personal favorite day during the spring time. Here in Finland Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May. Last year I made my Mom a mini book about our sunny holiday together and this year I thought to continue the mini book theme by making a book using old photos. Giving hand made gifts is much more appreciated in our family and I know these photos of me and my siblings will make our Mom very happy – and probably quite nostalgic.
The Avenue collection by Jen Hadfield is filled with beautiful blooms and flowers, soft colors, and cute patterns. It could be used for many kinds of projects and I love how the black and white photos look against the wood pattern.
To create the book I made a simple thick cover using patterned papers and cardboard and pages using patterned papers and clear plastic sheets. There are lots of fun elements like windows, frames, and shaker pockets inside the book, and cute tags and petals hanging over the page edges.
As I’m giving this book away as a gift, I think leaving empty areas for journaling is a great way making it interactive. The receiver can go through the photos I’ve added and the memories and stories behind those cute shots. Writing my own memories is also a great gift but this time I chose to leave empty areas. Maybe I’ll wrap a pencil or two to the same package, just to make sure those areas will be used as planned.
