Home Decor: DIY Peg Board

Hello friends! It’s Gail here today to share a little bit of home décor inspiration!

I’m always envious of the beautiful mantle displays I see on Pinterest! Here in Australia, not many houses have mantles to decorate so I came up with another plan and I can’t wait to show you the results! Let’s take a look at the finished project and then I will show you through each DIY project!

I found an inexpensive small pegboard display (at Kmart here in Australia) and I knew the perfect blank wall space in my living room to hang it. It came with some wooden pegs and shelves and you can obviously change around their configuration. Here it is blank, and ready to be styled!

I used a mix of items that I already had on hand as well as a couple of crafted items that I could customize.

The first thing I did was to gather a couple of white photo frames (I always have some of those on hand!) and I knew I wanted one to have a quote or saying in it. While looking through my stash, I came across the Gallery Prints from the Dear Lizzy ‘Happy Place’ collection. I chose to use the teal and silver ombre foil and Heidi Swapp Minc to add my foil. Perfect!

Next up I wanted a small garland of sorts to hang across. I immediately thought of all the tassel banners I’ve been seeing on my internet surfing so I grabbed some of the Treat Tissue in coordinating colors and got snipping and twisting!

Here’s a look at the finished garland which I hung underneath a shelf with a  family photo on it:

And finally, it was so quick and easy to grab a Marquee Light that I had stashed away and cut some patterned paper (also from the Dear Lizzy ‘Happy Place’ collection) to cover it. The hardest part was deciding on which paper to use!

I also added a couple of tassels and rub ons for a bit of extra embellishing.

In case you are wondering, the ‘5’ is for the number of people in our family! My husband had to ask me what it was for! Here’s a look at my embellished number:

I am so thrilled to have a small space in our home where I can create and decorate (and re-decorate) as often as I like, especially for upcoming holidays! Watch this space (and be sure to follow me on Instagram @gaillindner) to see what I come up with for my peg board in the future!
