Vicki Funk - Headshot

Short bio: Hello! I’m Vicki Funk and I’m so excited to be the guest designer here today! I live in Perth, Australia with my little family – my hubby, two gorgeous girlies, and a very naughty cat! I love documenting the everyday, ordinary little moments. I enjoy experimenting and playing with my craft goodies and I love it when my hands are dirty with ink or paint or mist. I love hearing my children giggle. I spend way too much time working and not enough time playing. I try to begin every day with the plan to have a great day – some days this goes better than others…

How did you get started scrapbooking? I started scrapbooking in 2001 when I very reluctantly tagged along with a friend to a scrapbook class at another friend’s home. I went along to find out what this “scrapbooking” thing was all about and that very first lesson got me totally hooked! I came home that night and scrapped the night away and couldn’t wait to get up in the morning to finish off my page and it’s stuck with me ever since – my style has evolved a lot since then but I love it all the same!

What is your favorite American Crafts product? Picking a favorite AC product is very difficult for me. I go through phases – if you had asked me a couple of months ago I would have definitely said Thickers without a doubt! Lately though, I’ve really been loving the rub ons and die cut embellishments packs and the 6×6 pads – all the paper goodness in a mini size – they just make my crafty heart flutter!

HELLO LOVELY by Vicki Funk
Tip: Don’t be afraid to use holiday specific products on other layouts too!  Here I used the circle cut outs from the Halloween banner kit as a grid for my layout and I’ve also included a Halloween tag but the layout doesn’t feel like a Halloween layout at all.

Tip: Use a bright/alternate color embroidery thread to hand stitch around your Thickers to make them pop.

TREAT CAN by Vicki Funk
Tip: Use either foam or rubber Thickers when adhering words to a concave object – they mold perfectly to the shape and will stick better than the cardstock Thickers because the glue from the whole letter will be able to make contact with the surface of your project.
