Document Travels with a Memory Box

Hiya, Jamie here, and I’m so excited to share this fun memory box I created! If you’re like me, you come home from a trip with lots of photos, but also tons of memorabilia—ticket stubs, receipts, business cards, brochures, shopping bags, maps and postcards. The list can go on and on! Sometimes, it’s easy to incorporate these things into your scrapbook pages. Sometimes, it isn’t so easy to do that. I think this solution solves the latter problem.

I created this box to house all of the odds and ends that I’ve kept, but didn’t make it into my scrapbooks for one reason or another. And, because it’s all travel ephemera, I thought it’d be fun to make the box look like a tiny suitcase. Because who doesn’t love miniature things?!

I started with a box I had just laying around. I covered it in patterned paper—specifically Shimelle’s “Journey” pattern from the Go Now Go collection. I loved all of those passport stamps! Then, I punched circles out of the “Date” patterned paper and added them to each of the corners. The straps and handle are also from this pattern, but I incorporated smaller strips of the “Drive” pattern to make it more colorful!

Lastly, I added stickers from the sticker book and a few of the Chipboard Stickers to embellish and make this little suitcase pop!

It’s filled with tons of odds and ends from many different trips. But I’m thinking it would be fun to have a box for every trip. It would also be a great place to store those traveler’s notebooks people are taking with them when they travel! You could even add photos to the box!

It was so much fun for me to go through my huge boxes of ephemera to create this smaller curated box. I’m so in love with the tactile aspect of this project. I liked being able to pick up each piece and hold them in my hands. Such a different experience than flipping through a book of page protectors. If traditional scrapbooking isn’t your jam, why not consider an ephemera box? I think they’re just as fun!
