DIY Shop Tools Mini Album by Lisa Fonseca

Hey friends, it’s Lisa on the blog today and I’m so excited to post my very first project for the new American Crafts design team.

The assignment for my project was to use DIY Shop tools and to create a mini album. Since I wanted to try out a brayer for quite a while, I was excited to get one from AC. I decided to create some cute backgrounds using the tool and using papers to make my mini album.

I started by choosing the colors for my mini album. Then I took two American Crafts cardstock sheets and put gesso all over them using the brayer. I then used my new acrylic inks, dropped a bit of the colors onto the sheet, and used the brayer to spread them out.

On top of the mixed media I had just created, I used a star stencil with white paint. I let everything dry and then I cut out circles from the two sheets of paper. I also used a sheet from the Vicki Boutin mixed media paper pad to cut out a few circles.

I chose one of those circles as my cover. I had the idea to create a cute little bird, so I added eyes, a beak, cheeks, and some hair to the cover page and stitched around it.

I cut out two wings from the Vicki Boutin paper and added them too. For the legs, I created 12 paper beads from my mixed media papers and I also cut out two feet. Then I used my WRMK Crop-A-Dile and added eyelets to the bottom the the body and to the feet. With some thread, I attached the legs and feet to the bird. I decorated the bird a bit more by adding some cute ephemera flowers from Paige Evans’ new collection Go the Scenic Route. Then I took all my circles and stitched around each one of them to create more texture and cuteness. I attached all the pages to the cover using a ring.

To finish, I added the title of them album. I wrote “I love to travel” with Paige’s new puffy word stickers. I think the album turned out really cute. You can create any kind of album by creating mixed media pages. Using the brayer with acrylic color, or any other type of color really, is very easy and fast and it always turns out differently.

I hope you like the project I created and are inspired to use the DIY Shop brayer! Thank you so much for stopping by!
