Creating Monochromatic Cards with Late Afternoon by Terhi Koskinen
Hello American Crafts Fans! It’s Terhi Koskinen here, ready to inspire you with some quick monochromatic cards created with the new line from Amy Tangerine: Late Afternoon. Late Afternoon is a beautiful line with perfect colors for fall. Just like all Amy’s lines, this too has all the rainbow colors featured. But for today, I skipped my first and very tempting idea of making a rainbow colored card and decided to focus on only one color. These cards and envelopes are made with a pink theme and a hint of purple plus a small touch of green to give some contrast.
Giving handmade cards for all the people I know is definitely one of my favorite things to do, but lately I have noticed that the envelope might matter just as much as the card itself. So why not to decorate the envelope to match the card inside! Now please let me tell you how the cards and envelopes were done.
I started with preparing patterned papers to be used for envelope boxes. Basic envelopes are often good, but today I knew my cards would be thicker than usual and so the envelope boxes made much more sense. With the help of WeR Memory Keepers Score Board I quickly folded two envelopes, both sized 2.5 x 3 x 1/4″.
Now that my idea was to focus more on the envelope than the card, I decided on adhering the sentiments only on the envelopes and leave the cards without. The cards will include a note anyway, so I simply cut a couple of fantastic phrases from patterned papers and used foam tape to highlight them on top of the pink envelopes.
The cards were created next and as you can see they are super easy to do, just as the envelopes! I started the process by cutting the flowers and leaves. There are lots of ways to create rolled flowers, my favorite way is to simply cut a round piece of paper, then cut it to the shape of spiral and roll loosely like a real flower. Finally, I glued the flower elements on top of the cards and voila!
The card base sizes are about 5 x 3″ and 6 x 2.5″, which makes the card sizes 2.5 x 3″ when folded in half. One of the cards is folded horizontally and the other one vertically. Both fit perfectly inside the envelope boxes I created.
I hope you’ll love Late Afternoon as much as I do! Thank you for joining me and reading through my thoughts about handmade cards. See you soon again!
