Hi friends, it Terhi here today. Summer is here, which means it’s almost time to celebrate Independence Day! Even though I live in Finland, I thought to inspire you with holiday decor. As I love altering old to new, I want to show you how simple it is to bring a festive look to your home. This project would look best as a centerpiece, but it could go anywhere! It would also make great party decorations.
Purchasing new vases over and over can become quite expensive, even though vases with a matching color theme are always a beautiful and important detail for decorating homes or parties. To me, there can’t be a party without a pretty flower arrangement. So, just grab some old vases or glass jars like I did and start playing with paints! For the 4th of July, I picked up red, white, and blue, but obviously any colors of your choice will do just as great. Why not painting vases with green and gold for Christmas or with pastels for Easter.
To paint the glass jars, I used the American Crafts Art Basics Acrylic Paints. My experience is that the acrylic paints worked well, but the result depends on the surface of the painted area. I painted a couple of layers and let the paint dry between the layers. Creating even stripes with the red and white paints was easy by using masking tape to hide parts away. To avoid the paint of crackling, I pulled the tapes away as soon as I was finished with the painting process.
After painting all three glass jars, I cut some white stars with the new American Crafts Precision Cardstock. I used cutting dies to cut them, but electronic cutting machines and punches will do just as good. I attached the stars with glue dots and finished the jars with matching ribbons. Voilá!
Hope you enjoy preparing some celebrations! And happy birthday to America in advance!
