Hiya, Jamie here! I’m so excited to share this fun project I put together for a friend’s daughter. It’s her first scrapbook + a coloring book + an activity book!
Lauren just turned four! She’s at the age when she can shakily write her name. For me, that’s such a fun age because in my mind, they’re probably still into stationary and other fun school supplies!
For her birthday, I handmade this junk journal using patterned paper from Amy Tangerine’s Oh Happy Life collection. The Midnight Snack donut paper was what inspired me in the first place. Those donuts will look so adorable colored in!
I don’t know a lot about what children can and can’t do at the age of four, but I knew I wanted to incorporate activities into the book. If it’s too advanced, Dad or Mom can help her! In this book Lauren can write, color, add stickers, glue die cuts, cut out shapes and just have fun with it! I wanted it to be bright and color and the Oh Happy Life collection is definitely that.
The pages themselves are all different shapes and size, housed inside of a 4 ½ x 6 ½ in cover. I pierced holes in the middle and sewed the book together using black twine. Then I added spots for photos (using photo corners) and just a few embellishments. The rest Lauren will be able to add herself. To help her out I created homes for the die cuts by outlining them in pen so she knows where to glue them. I also punched circles and included them as spots to add stickers.
When I was done putting it all together, I added post-it type notes to the book so that Mom or Dad can help her “complete” it. In her gift bag, I also included crayons, a few pencils, some kid friendly scissors and a glue stick.
