A ‘Spooktacular’ Double-Page Layout by Kylie Kingham

Hello crafty friends! It’s Kylie Kingham back on the blog with you all today and I am sharing a super fun and ‘spook-tacular’ double-page layout. With Halloween fast approaching I thought it would be fun to document some photos of my son from last Halloween when he dressed up in his alien abduction costume. When I document a series of photos such as these I like to create a double page design with multiple photos featured. It really helps to capture the story and I like to call them my ‘storyboard’ layouts. I couldn’t think of a more fitting or suitable collection to enhance my photos than the ‘Spoooky’ collection by Pebbles. There are so many fun icons, prints, and embellishments, it really helped my pages come to life.

My page design was quite simple. I used two sheets of the ‘Monster Mash’ paper as my background. To add extra colour to the background I took one sheet of the ‘Treats Please’ paper and made three cuts- 2 x 1″ wide cuts and then I cut the remainder of the paper in half, making 2 x 5″ wide pieces. I layered these pieces on the bottom section of both pieces of background paper to create a colorful border. A handy tip when you are working with double page layouts to keep things symmetrical is to keep both pages evenly and neatly together when adding things like border strips so that they join cohesively.

Next I created two side decorative borders from layering papers ‘Hey Boo’, ‘Pumpkin Carving,’ and ‘Eeeek’. Each layer was trimmed at 3″, 2.25″ and 1.5″ with a scalloped edge trimmer for a decorative finish. I love the effect of layering different colored patterns together!

I worked with 6 photos for my pages. All were printed at 6″ x 4″ however two of them were cut down to 4″ x 4″ square. When working with full sized photos such as these I like to cut my photo mats first and add them in place where they will be positioned. The ‘Candy Toss’ paper was used for the mats and once I adhered them in place I trimmed my photos slightly smaller so the mats would feature as a border and cropped each photo corner for effect. These were then adhered over the top of the mats with double sided tape.

With my photos in place, I can start to enjoy embellishing my pages. I created some fun clusters of layered embellishments which also added a lovely pop of color to my finished design. Foam tape adhesive was used on some to create dimension on my pages.

To complete my pages I added a large ‘Hocus Pocus’ title with the ‘Midnight’ alpha Thickers. This was created on my left side page. Once finished I loved seeing all these photos documented on the two pages as a storyboard.

I have also filmed a short process video so you can see exactly how my layout came together via the link below:-

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you have enjoyed seeing my double page layout and it inspires you with your own ‘Spooky’ memory keeping. Until next time!
